In the Internet’s “blog to riches” category, Ben Huh dominates. He purchased I Can Has Cheezburger from bloggers he met online in 2007. He turned the user-generated content site, most notably of cat pictures overlayed with misspelled text, into a network which now receives 375 million page views a month across its 50 sites. The most well-known of these sites include I Can Has Cheezburger, FAIL Blog, The Daily What, Memebase and Know Your Meme.
Huh also stars in Bravo’s reality TV show, LOLwork, a real-life workplace comedy reminiscent of The Office. The company’s mission is to ” Make The World Happier for 5 Minutes a Day.”
Although Huh’s work stands for happiness and humor, he has also spoken out about depression and the need for entrepreneurs to hold onto hope, regardless of failure or success of their startups.
Before working in tech, Huh earned a journalism degree from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism — a field he says he had never worked in, until cofounding mobile news startup Circa last year, of which he is on the board.
Despite the progress Huh has made in leaving a positive footprint on the Internet, he still sees a long road ahead with more work to be done. Check out the video above to see Ben Huh discuss success and celebration with Mashable‘s Adam Ostrow.
